Baked Thai Style Catfish Fish Cakes
Thai fish cakes are one of the most well-known Thai dishes that you mostly can find in any Thai restaurant. It is one of the famous Thai street food that makes its way to the globalized community. Thai fish cakes are a flavorful recipe. It is a little bit spicy with a smooth texture of the fish paste that mixed with Thai spice and make it perfect for your taste.
I have always wanted to make this dish at home because I feel like it is too expensive to spend about $5-6 at the restaurant for 5 pieces of fish cakes. The problem is I felt too intimidated to make them. I feel it could be a lot to make it successful but it finally happened today. My husband came home with grocery bags and told me that he bought ingredients for Thai fish cakes. I feel like he puts a spotlight on me and now I cannot turn my back because I hate to waste the food and money. So, I tell myself this is destiny and I must make it happen!
Let's do the Thai Style Catfish Fish Cakes
So, my husband bought the ingredients and he has no idea that the Thai fish cakes usually require the Dolly fish paste instead he buys catfish fillets! Alright, this is going to be interesting. I start everything from scratch. Good things that this recipe requires only 7 ingredients. I added all the ingredients in the food blender and blend them until the texture is smooth then I make patties about 2 inches diameter. With one pound of catfish, I make about 20 patties of the fish cakes.
To make it healthier
Thai fish cakes have known as deep-fried appetizers. We all know that deep-fried is one of the cooking methods we need to avoid for a healthier eating choice. Instead of deep-fried or pan-fried, I bake the Thai fish cakes in the oven. I heated the oven at 350 Fahrenheit degrees, and it takes about 20 minutes to cook the Thai fish cakes.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. catfish cut into pieces
- ¼ cup finely chopped green beans
- ¼ cup cilantro, chopped up
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoon red curry
- ¼ cup brown rice flour
- 1 tbsp. fish sauce, low sodium if possible
- Olive oil or any cooking oil for rubbing the fish cakes
Instructions:
- Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend everything until the texture of the ingredients become smooth.
- Lay a parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Make patties about 2 inches big and put them on the cookie sheet. Rub the oil on the fish cakes. Use a spoon to thin the patties down (so they cook evenly).
- Heat the oven on bake at 350 Fahrenheit degrees and cook the Thai fish cakes for 20 minutes.
- Serve them with Sriracha sauce or Sweet Thai chili sauce.
