This Air-fried Tofu Snack With Thai Sweet Chili Sauce recipe is a really quick and delicious way to make this crispy hot and sweet snack. My wife, Mod, made her original version of the snack, using an oven to bake them and they are so good.

This Air-fried Tofu Snack With Thai Sweet Chili Sauce

As I make this, it's tax season, I made it for a snack to help with the pain of going through the less than exciting task of gathering documents and crunching numbers.

This was inspired by my wife's Baked Tofu Snake Recipe on this site, and pairs well with any of our entrees. You can use your own store-bought, Thai sweet chili sauce, but I recommend using our lower-calorie version. It's really easy to make and healthier.

    Ingredients

This 5-ingredient recipe just takes a few ingredients, that are easy to find at most supermarkets.

5 Ingredient Air Fryer Tofu Snack Ingredients
    • • 2 (16 oz.) packages of extra firm tofu
    • • ½ tablespoon olive oil
    • • ½ tablespoon rice vinegar
    • • ½ tablespoon Sriracha sauce
    • • 1 ½ tablespoon GF Tamari low sodium, or just low sodium soy sauce

See the recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

    Instructions

    1. Wash tofu and dried it with a dry cloth.
    2. Cut tofu vertically and then slice it in a half. So the tofu is not too thick.
    3. Then cut each tofu into four pieces.
    4. Stack paper towels in several layers and lay sliced tofu on the paper towels. Cover the tofu with other layers of paper towels. Place some heavy objects like 5 lbs flour bag, soup cans, or cast iron on top of the paper towels and let them sit for 10 minutes.

    5. Prepare a sauce while waiting for the tofu by mixing the oil, rice vinegar, Sriracha sauce, and Tamari or soy sauce together.

    6. Take the objects on top of the tofu out and cut each tofu into four pieces.

    9. Cook on air-fry or bake setting depending on your machine.

    10. Serve with Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, or whatever you prefer, they're good without sauce.

    Substitutions

You can find ways to make this fit pretty much any diet.

    • Gluten free - make sure to find gluten free tamari.
    • Low sodium - Never buy full sodium soy sauce if you have high blood pressure, find creative ways to make it more flavorful.
    • Vegetarian - This is already a vegetarian recipe but if you're a purist, make sure to read the ingredients and look for contaminants.

    Variations

You can increase or decrease how spicy this recipe is, so don't assume that's it has to be spicy.

    • Spicy - add chili pepper flakes while cooking to imbue heat into the sauce or increase the sriracha to double.
    • Kid friendly - you don't have to add spice at all, just don't add the sriracha, and have something like ranch dressing instead.

    Equipment

Air fryers vary greatly so you may have to use the bake mode or something else if you don't get the finish you want. You basically want to bake it for 10 minutes, so use your judgment if you don't have the same buttons we used on our machine.

    Storage

Cover and place in the fridge, should be good for 2-3 days or more.

    Top tip

This recipe is best when you get the outside of the tofu crispy and hot. You can add ore subtract time if you don't get it crispy, hot and delicious, machines vary.
