Mexican and Thai cuisines, both known for their vibrant flavors, are often paired with other food cultures. Tex-Mex foods, for instance, combine the culinary flavors of Southern comfort food and traditional Mexican dishes. At the same time, the Thai culture is well-known for making other cultures’ dishes Thai-like. However, the combination of these two distinct culinary traditions is relatively unexplored. Check out these three Thai-Mexican fusion dishes you need to try!
Mex-Style Pad Thai
Traditional Pad Thai, a staple dish of Thailand, consists of stir-fried rice noodles tossed with eggs, tofu, or shrimp and garnished with crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, lime wedges, and fresh herbs. The beauty of this dish is that you can toss in additional proteins, veggies, and spices to create the perfect fusion Pad Thai.
Add grilled shrimp seasoned with chili powder to your noodles for a touch of Mexican cuisine. Enhancing the Pad Thai sauce with tamarind paste and ancho chiles will give the dish a flavorful kick that resonates with the bold tastes of Mexican cuisine. This Mex-Style Pad Thai reinvents the classic Thai dish with a spicy twist, introducing your palate to an exciting fusion of flavors. This will be a whole post in the future so stay tuned!
Thai Curry Lean Protein Burritos
Traditional Thai curry carries a profound depth of flavor, achieved by combining a variety of aromatic herbs and spices, such as lemongrass, galangal, coriander, and chilies. The chicken (or other meat, seafood, or vegetables) is simmered in thick coconut milk, resulting in a dish that is simultaneously spicy, sweet, and creamy.
After learning what you need to know about organic tortillas, you can take your Thai curry and place it in a delicious organic flour tortilla to create a delightful Mex-Thai meal that is both tasty and convenient. Including rice and beans in the burrito wrap adds a hearty texture that complements the smoothness of the curry, creating a satisfying contrast that makes every bite more enjoyable.

Thai-Mexican Fusion Tacos!
Tacos are quintessential Mexican, as I write this I am in Thailand where I met a Mexican tourist from Morelia. She said the main difference she sees in what Americans call Mexican food and what she eats is Americans eat more burritos. You can eat burritos in the car, which is why they are my default as I drive a lot. When I am at home though, you can see by the length of my list, that tacos are the goto for me. Given that they differ by region, you can find an enormous variety of flavors depending on where you are. I used my imagination for the ones below. Sticky Rice Churro
Sticky rice desserts are popular in Thailand, often served with ripe mangoes and drizzled with sweetened coconut milk. Making traditional sticky rice involves soaking glutinous rice overnight and then steaming it until it is tender yet chewy.
For a unique Mex-Thai dessert, you can place your sticky rice atop a curled churro. Drizzling the entire creation with caramel adds an extra-sweet touch and beautifully combines the churro’s crispy texture with the soft and chewy sticky rice. This sticky rice churro is a novel fusion dessert that perfectly marries the sweetness of Mexican and Thai cuisines. Sticky rice on it's own has a high glycemic index and is not very healthy. Using a more whole grain glutenous, should be healthier. Stay tuned for more on this in a future post.
