Massaman Curry Turkey Sliders
Sliders are a fun dish that can be made quickly and eaten as a finger food or a main dish. I think sliders are a good choice for parties because they are kind of cute and you can walk around with them while you talk. Thai massaman curry is one of the most delicious Thai Dishes I have ever had, so I went with a massaman curry to put in the extra lean ground turkey.
My wife and I work out almost every single day and we both love turkey burgers so we thought we would change it up and do something different with a slider.
Potatoes are one thing we left out because unfortunately they have a high glycemic index. If you wanted to have potatoes you could use sweet potato fries which have a lower glycemic index and it still be somewhat healthy.
I kept the avocado as a side and put some Sriracha on it artistically, just for appearance. It also tastes good on its own, but a little Sriracha is good on anything. We were able to pick up whole wheat buns for sliders at the local supermarket.
This recipe is actually super simple. It's just one package of extra lean ground turkey, about a pound or so, ½ onion chopped and 1 to 1 and ½ tablespoons of massaman curry paste. You just mix the onions, curry paste and meat as well as possible, massaging with your cleaned hands. Form the patties to be about the size of the buns or slightly bigger. We then grill with a George Forman grill to help remove as much more of the bad fat as possible.
You will also need whatever toppings you like such as sliced Roma tomatoes, sliced onion, sliced pickles, avocado slices and Sriracha, mustard, ketchup or whatever else you want.
Health Improvements and Concerns
We improved the recipe by using extra lean turkey and grilling on a grill that helps drain fat. If you have concerns with cardiovascular disease you might want to avoid meats other than fish all together. You could use vege-burgers defrosted and used like ground meat instead. - 1 package of extra lean ground turkey, about 1 lb.
- ½ medium chopped onion
- 1-11/2 tablespoon Masaman curry paste
- Heat the grill at 375 Fahrenheit degrees.
- Mix ground turkey, chopped onion, and Masaman curry paste in a mixing bowl. Make sure that the ground turkey and the curry paste is mixed very well.
- Make the slider patties about ¾ inch thick.
- Grill the patties about 6 -7 minutes.
- Serve with whole wheat slider buns, ramona tomatoes, pickles, mustard, and a little bit of ketchup.
