Thai Spicy Baked Turkey
Thai spicy baked turkey is a great recipe to take the monotony and awkwardness out of the holidays and get-togethers. Doing something different brings a little more excitement to the scene and makes for a conversation that is a bit more natural.
The holidays are on the way as of this writing. It is the time that friends and family will gather to enjoy and share a good time, their companionship and of course the incredible food. You can enjoy a turkey any time of year though knowing that it's largely white meat. It is also a very easy way to make a lot of food and save money eating out.
This recipe is super simple and only requires 2 ingredients really. We used a small turkey and laab seasoning. If you want to throw some vegetables in you can. We had some peppers that needed to be used so we threw them in the bag. You will want to have a tablespoon of flour to throw in the oven bag and keep the bird from burning as well. The flavor of larb is a combination of garlic and a little pepper.
Health Concerns
The laab seasoning does have a little msg and gluten in it. If you find a better one let us know. As always, if you have concerns regarding special dietary needs or certain ingredients, play it safe. When in doubt, check it out is the motto I use. The good news is that Turkey is packed with protein and is white meat aside from the drumsticks.
Our Recipe
Ingredients:
1 whole turkey, the one we used was 8.72 lbs.
3 packages of Laab-Namtok seasoning mix
6 tablespoon olive oil
10-15 mini sweet peppers (or any choice of vegetables you want)
Things we need to use for cooking the turkey
: 1 oven bag
: 1 aluminum foil pan, about 2 inches deep at least
Instructions:
1. Defrost the turkey, wash it with cold water and dab the water out with paper towels. Pre-heat the oven to 350 F.
2. Pour the Laab-Namtok seasoning mix into a bowl and mix it with olive oil.
3. Use a cooking brush to brush the mix on the turkey. Brush the seasoning all over the turkey both outside and inside.
4. Transfer the turkey to an oven bag and throw mini sweet peppers into the bag along with the turkey. Avoid putting the vegetables close to the top of the bag, they could be burnt.
5. Leave the turkey in the oven for 2 hours and 30 minutes. If your turkey is bigger use a meat thermometer to check the turkey temperature by stick it at the thigh (not the drumstick); it has to reach 170 F.
6. Serve as a main dish slicing longitudinally with the body with the knife at a 45-degree angle.
7. Save the drippings for a curry gravy we will make in an upcoming recipe and subscribe so you don't miss a thing..
