Sweet and Salty Thai Pepper Fruit Dip
If you're like me people are constantly giving you food to take home. A lot of the time I refuse and people say they have way too much of something so we often have way too much of something. Right now it's citrus fruits. We moved to Houston 2 years ago. It was the first for me to live amongst citrus trees.
You can buy a lime pepper powder to dip fruit in at most supermarkets. This is a latin branded one I think I picked up at a convenience store. It is using dried chili pepper powder. We used fresh Thai peppers here.
When I was touring Thailand for the first time with my Thai family they were passing around some sliced guava with a little bag of something like this. It is a really easy way to improve upon the already amazing fruit variety available in tropical and sub-tropical locations. My wife throws it together all the time and I have to be like a ninja to grab a photo because it is so normal and insignificant to her.
I was able to talk her into sharing her recipe and here it is. It is only salt, stevia and sliced Thai peppers. If you have high blood pressures you may want to skip the salt or substitute with something healthier. If you only have dried Thai peppers you will want to follow these instructions to make a Thai chili powder and substitute an equivalent amount of the powder for the chopped pepper.
Here are the simple instructions to make the fresh Thai chili dip.
Ingredients:
- 3 Chopped Thai Peppers
- 2 Tablespoons Stevia
- 1 Teaspoon salt or a low sodium substitute
Directions:
- Chop the peppers in very thin circular slices and place in a bowl or bag for a road-trip.
- Add the Salt, or substitute, and Stevia
3. Shake or stir and serve with sliced or separated fruit.
