Sizzling Shrimp Sriracha Salad
This shrimp salad takes the perfect blending of sriracha, garlic, and chilies in a homemade vinaigrette dressing. Then Sriracha seasoned shrimp is placed on top of the salad whilst it's still sizzling. Sriracha is quintessential Thailand. Made from spicy chilies and developed just southeast of Thailand, this is a seasoning that people eat every day and probably don't even realize they are doing Thai style.
Shrimp is also a staple of Thailand, we ate it at a street food vendor right before driving east from Bangkok past the Sriracha sign. Throw it all together with some salad and you have a pretty healthy Thai recipe. What else makes this recipe Thai? My Thai wife designing the recipe from scratch, mixing and tasting and then mixing again until she says, ahh, that's it. 🙂
Health Considerations
Shrimp has more cholesterol than most foods so you can always substitute the protein without compromising the taste too much. Shrimp has always been one of our favorites though, so we had to go in for it on this one.
Ingredients:
For the Shrimp
- 1 Pound peeled shrimp
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 1 tablespoon of chopped garlic
- 1 tsp of rice vinegar
Instructions for preparing the shrimp
- Spray a skillet with oil and cook in a skillet or wok at medium heat, stirring often until cooked
Ingredients for the Salad
- 1 Head of romaine lettuce
- 1 half cucumber with the seeds scooped out and cut into C shaped slices
- 1 ½ cup shredded purple cabbage
- 1 cup shredded carrot
Ingredients For the Dressing
- 1 ½ tablespoon sambal garlic chili paste
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 2 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoon olive or canola oil
- 1 ½ tbsp low sodium soy sauce
Instructions:
Toss all the ingredients together in your bowl, saving the shrimp to put on top. You can toss the shrimp in with the rest of the salad but I like it when restaurants bring the salad with the meat still sizzling on top. Enjoy!
