Thai Chili Chocolate Strawberry Protein Smoothie
This Thai chili chocolate strawberry protein smoothie uses the powerful heat of Thai peppers balanced with the chocolate strawberry flavors. Thai chili makes a perfect complement to chocolate. Strawberries are also a great complement and the three make a fantastic ménage à trois. Chocolate strawberries are a great gift for a lover and the peppers help spice things up. 🙂
This is just a really simple recipe I threw together this morning. I'm always trying to find new ways to get all of my colorful fruits and vegetables and we happened to have Thai peppers and strawberries. We always have Thai peppers of course though. You can often find them at western supermarkets but if not go to an Asian market. I used a chocolate almond milk and some protein powder I had already bought. I go for whey protein because it is better absorbed by the body. If you have a dairy allergy like I do you might want to be careful with the whey. I have a mild reaction I hardly notice but when in doubt, no whey.
As someone who does physical therapy for a living and was first a personal trainer I think you want to lift weights several times per week. For this reason you will also want to pay attention to your protein intake. If you ever wonder how some people, like The Rock, or Mario Lopez don't age, they pay attention to these details. During my bachelor's degree I learned this formula for calculating your personal protein to add.
CALCULATING HOW MUCH PROTEIN TO ADD
To calculate how much protein you need go with 1.4-1.8 grams of protein/ kilogram of body weight. You will want to have some protein powder, whey is the most absorb-able by the body. Quickly convert pounds to kilograms at this site to calculate how much you weigh in kilograms. Remember that that is the amount of protein per day. This means you have to account for the protein you have or will be consuming the rest of the day.
The Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups chocolate milk of some kind
- ½ cup ice
- 1-2 scoops protein powder or your calculated amout
- 2 Thai peppers with the stem off
- 1 cup strawberries
Instructions:
- Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend
- Serve with a strawberry for garnish and share to help someone with healthier habits
