Durian Protein Smoothie-An Epicurean Adventure That is Healthy
This strong smelling fruit is one that people have a love hate relationship with. We think we figured out how to balance it in a smoothie. Rather than my standby favorite coconut I went with orange juice.
Durian
The fruit is grown in Southeast Asian and is famous for it's strong odor. If you ever travel in the orient you might see signs that say no durian. They are like anchovies, some people love them and others can't stand them. I personally like them but the smell does grab my attention.
Making durian more tolerable for anyone
My wife Mod had the insight that we should use something other than coconut. This is because it already has a custard like texture and it could get too thick. The liquid acidic flavor and texture of orange juice go really well. My wife was suprised that with this recipe she could actually handle the flavor. Before she tried it she didn't think she would be able to handle it. This may well be the safest way in the world to get the flavor. 🙂
Ingredients:
- 1 section of frozen durian
- 1-2 cups water
- 1 scoop protein powder
- 1-2 cups of ice
- 1 cup orange juice
Instructions:
- If you are able to get the frozen durian section separated and out of the bag while it's still frozen you will save yourself the smell. Otherwise a normal section durian will do.
- Blend and serve while it's still icy.
