Breadfruit and Thai Basil Coconut Protein Smoothie
This breadfruit smoothie combines complementary flavors and protein for a super nourishing nutrition boost. The breadfruit is a tropical fruit known for it's nourishing properties which it is found in Oceania and Polynesia.
Breadfruit
Breadfruit grows mostly in Polynesia, Micronesia and Oceania, and it grows on trees similar to jackfruit and also mulberry trees. The shape of the leaves will remind you of mulberry trees if you are from the Western part of the US. They are occasionally sold at Asian markets and other random US markets if you get lucky. You will get a good amount of vitamin C and potassium from the fruit. It is 71% water and 27% carbs, so it is a good pre or post workout ingredient.
In Thai Desserts
Since this fruit grows well in Thailand, you will see it used in a number of deserts there. You will find it as a curry like this, you will also find it just put in coconut milk. The breadfruit in coconut milk was the inspiration for this smoothie.
My breadfruit smoothie recipe
For my recipe I used coconut milk, a Thai basil and the usual amount of protein powder I use. To calculate protein use this little guide.
Calculating Protein Requirements
All my smoothies are based on 1.4-1.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. There are 2.2 pounds per kilogram, so you can calculate your weight in kilograms and multiply by 1.6. These are general guidelines; I learned in college for someone lifting weights and doing cardio regularly.

- 1 scoop protein powder
- ¼th cup Thai basil
- 2 cups coconut juice with pulp
