Tiger Cry – Thai Style Steak

Tiger Cry – Thai Style Steak

Thai Style Steak

Tiger Cry

Tiger cry, what a name for a food.  Why tiger?  Why does it cry?  Thai food can have some weird names on it like Pad Kee Mao or Waterfall pork.  First, I gave the explanation of the recipe’s name from my experience why it’s called tiger cry.  Because the grilled beef tastes so good, even the tiger would have the tear of joy when it’s eating the food.  But when I looked it up, it turns out the origin of the name wasn’t close to my guess at all.  It’s a story of a tiger who hunts and kills a cow.  The tiger eats most of the cow’s meat, but there’s one part that it doesn’t try yet which is the brisket.  The tiger is too full to finish the most tender meat of the cow, and now it’s crying because missing out of the best part of the cow.  That’s the story of the “Tiger Cry.”

It’s a BEEF day!

Since I’ve been into the health and fitness world, I am more careful with the food that I consume daily.  I’m trying to choose the best choice of food without breaking my wallet and bank account.  At home, we usually cook and eat chicken because it’s lean and one of the cheaper protein sources.  Once in a while, I cook beef if I find a good deal for the right kind of cut.  I went to H.E.B next to my home and found the round eye steak was on sale, and it’s less than $4/lb.  I immediately grabbed it without a second thought.

There’s a trick for the Tiger cry

It is hard to compare the tenderness of the round eye beef to the brisket, but there’s a little trick.  I added a baking soda to soften the round eye beef.  Baking soda is a magic powder for cooking and household needs, and I love it.  Making the Tiger cry was so easy, I cut the steak about one inch thick and marinated it with seasoning soy sauce, oyster sauce, white pepper, and baking soda and put it in a refrigerator for one hour.  *You may want to use a low sodium soy sauce but the taste will change.  I set up the grill at 400 Fahrenheit degrees and cooked it for 40 minutes.  Then I sliced the meat up and served with steamed broccoli, snap peas, carrots, and the Thai chili powder dipping sauce below.

The Secret Sauce

Tiger Cry Dipping Sauce

Thai Chili Powder Dipping Sauce

The tiger cry is already such a good steak itself, but when it meets with the Thai chili powder dipping sauce it is the best steak ever!  The dipping sauce has all four tastes; spicy from the Thai chili powder, sour from tamarind concentrate, sweet from Truvia, and salty from fish sauce and seasoning soy sauce.  This tasty sauce is not only good with the tiger cry, but it’s a perfect dipping sauce for any kind of grilled beef and steamed vegetables.  I guarantee it’s delicious.  If you want to share this meal with your kids, you can exclude the Thai chili powder.

Here’s the recipe.
