Honey Mango and Coconut Protein Smoothie
The honey mango may actually be one of two mangoes. One developed in Austrailia and one in Mexico. Either way, honey mangoes have a sweet savory flavor. It grows in the tropics making it a fantastic new addition to Thai recipes. Honey mangoes have a sweet-savory flavor and thin skin. There are over 400 varieties of mangoes grown and Thailand is the number 3 grower in the world. They are delicious and you can expect to see them in Thai foods.
I stumbled upon the honey mango in the trendy new market near our apartment. I think ours must be the Mexican type also called the ataulfo because the sticker said Mexico on it. It seems like more and more exotic fruits are available at most supermarkets. The ones I found are a bit smaller than the other mangoes we buy.
Preparations of the honey mango
They are a bit harder to peel and cut. The one we had had a buttery texture and I tried to cross cut it for garnish as in our other mango smoothie. The meat of it was just too soft and it fell apart. The good news is that that makes the smoothie really creamy. My wife said she liked the texture. The seed inside is long and thin, typical of mangoes. I peeled and sliced them lengthwise with a pairing knife.
Calculating your protein dosage
Generally, you can go for 1.4-1.8 grams per kilogram of body weight. If you want to convert to pounds there are 2.2 pounds per kilogram. Just divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 and then multiply by 1.6. That’s what I would use for my routine of alternating between lifting weights and cardio workouts. Generally, whey protein is the best absorbed by the body. Furthermore, it is better absorbed if taken right before sleep. I use an unflavored whey protein powder in this recipe.
Recipe
We use the Oster MyBlend as our blender which is small. For 2 small servings or 1 big one, we used 2 honey mangoes sliced. I went for honey to sweeten it since it's called a honey mango. I think the name honey refers as much to the golden color as the flavor but it tastes delicious. Another bonus of honey is that it is an all natural sweetener that is supposedly healthier than sugar. That is according to an exercise physiologist in a class I took a few months ago. The order in which you add the ingredients to the blender really only matters if you use a tiny blender like ours.
Ingredients:
- 2 small honey mangoes

- 1 tablespoon honey
- approximately 1 cup silk coconut milk depending on how thick you like your smoothie.
Instructions:
- Add the sliced mango to the blender.
